DVD MultiBurner help required

#1 Post by El Blanco » Sat Jan 07, 2006 12:19 pm

Hi everyone.

I've recently purchased a T43 (2668-AY5) and was updating software today using Microsoft Update. Since then, the DVD will not work. It will not recognise disks. It does, however, appear in My Computer and shows no errors in Device Manager.

I've done the usual - re-installed drivers, removed drive and re-installed, checked software levels - but it still will not recognise a disk. All that happens is the green light on the drive, next to the eject button, flashes constantly.

DVD Drive is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-8225.

The software that was updated was the usual Windows XP updates. The only two potentially contentious ones were Update for WMDRM-enabled Media Players (KB891122) and Update for Windows XP HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240).

Has anybody got any ideas? Thanks for any help.

I think I had a problem with Update for Windows XP HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240) on a desktop PC. If I remember right, I ended up uninstalling it in Add or Remove Programs. Actually I had problems with this drive for a couple of months until I finally did a fresh reinstall of Windows. I am not positive that HighMAT Support was the culprit, as I also did a optical drive firmware update about the same time.

Before you do a fresh reinstall of Windows, you could try the following. Set a System Restore Point. Next launch regedt32 (from the Run button off of the Start menu) and search for all references to the Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-8225 drive and delete them. Now reboot. Windows should find the drive and reinstall the drivers for it. If you have problems, you can go back to the System Restore Point you made to undo the changes. I used the above method to successfully fix a bad USB printer install that I couldn't fix any other way.

When I was having problems with my drive, I read that sometimes a faulty registry setting can create problems that a driver reinstall will not correct.
