battery charging issues with 600X

#1 Post by jthomas_null » Sat Jan 07, 2006 1:59 pm

I have a 600X running linux, and I have some battery issues:

--With the original battery, it charges fine but as the battery discharges it jumps from 80% power to 5% and the charge light starts blinking orange. I attributed this to battery wear, so I bought a new battery

--I bought a new battery on eBay (not official IBM) -- when I try to charge it the charge light goes solid orange but the battery never charges.

It's likely the original battery is old and the new one is just bad -- but before I order another one, can anyone tell me if this sounds like a hardware problem?

The 80% to 5% drop is a sign of an aging battery. A new one was a good choice.

As you know, orange during charging is usually a good sign, so your new battery may not be good. See if you can exchange it.

But, since your machine still charges the old battery, it sounds like your machine is fine.

You can *still* get a brand new battery from Lenovo for your 600X for $59. I think they are still making them, and the web site always says "Last chance"... for about a year now.
