I have a A31P 2653-HU6: P4-M 1.7GHz (512KB), 256MB RAM, 60.0GB HDD, 15.0 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD, 8x4x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, 802.11b(MPCI), Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), Bluetooth(CDC), IEEE 1394, Secure Chip(TCPA), TV out, Li-Ion battery, Win2000
There are 2.0 mother boards out on the internet that 2.0. Can you take the 1.7 out and replace witha 2.0? it says that it is for the same machine.
Not sure it would make a big difference but just wondering.
thanks
Tommy

Is your motherboard dead? If not, you may be able to upgrade your cpu (some of the A31p folks around here have upgraded their cpu's to 2.6 gigahertz for example).

Ditto on just upgrading the CPU. You can go to 2.6 for about the price you'd pay for 2.0 mobo.
Rough eBay prices for P4-M CPUs:
2.6 = $300
2.4 = $150
2.2 = $100
2.0 = $80
I'm waiting on the arrival of my T30 to test if a Celeron-M CPU will work in it as I can get a new 2.4 Celeron-M for $75 shipped. Performance will not be quite that of the P4-M but VERY little difference from benchmarks posted. The biggest thing I'd lose is battery life, but mine is only run on battery when I need to change location in my home or during power outages.
