Ultrabay Slim LiPolymer

#1 Post by stapol » Tue Jul 13, 2004 5:03 pm

Thinkpad t42p always uses Ultrabay Slim LiPolymer first for powering this laptop. After Ultrabay Slim LiPolymer got 0%, then thinkpad use the main battery which is Li-Ion 6 cell batery.
I heard it is not good for Li-ion battery to completely discharge. But I never heard about LiPolymer battery.

Is it ok for Ultrabay Slim LiPolymer to discharge completely (to 0 %) on t42p ?

Thx U :D

Not really, the li-polymer battery works the same as a regular li-ion battery but can be made smaller because it doesn't need so much packaging. I always though that the drain to 0% was a bad idea on IBM's part, you should pull the li-polymer battery out at about 5%, otherwise it'll lose capacity like my ultrabay 2000 battery did, barely 20 cycles and it's down to 32Wh from 38Wh.

I reckon it's a conspiracy on IBM's part, since those batteries cost so much. If IBM cared about keeping things functioning as long as possible, they'd use a proper battery sharing setup like some dells do where the batteries drain fairly evenly.

One more think ... I cant charge full my new 6 cell battery. It's stuck 98 % and has zero cycle ont it. Is it normal ? What can I do to make it is 100 % again ?
Thx again ..... :D

It stops charging when the battery is already around 95%+ or so. If you drain it below that, say to 80%, it should be able to charge it continuously to 100%.
