Non IBM DVD Drives

If I wanted to upgrade to a

or any other non IBM DVD burner driver, would all I have to do is swap the faceplate with my current drive? Or would I have to cut into the bezel?

unless that drive is 9mm (doubt it is), then it's not gonna work....the standard form-factor for laptop is a 12mm drive, and only panasonic makes the 9mm, pretty much exclusively for ibm.

That NEC drive will work in a T2x machine, not the new T4x machines due to the change from 12mm to 9mm thick drives. It will not physically fit. You can however get the NEC drive and get an external case that will house a 12mm drive so you can use it as a USB drive.

Is it that Panasonic is the only one who makes 9mm dvd burners? Because my combo drive is a Matshita

Panasonic is the same as Matshita. Matshita is just a different name and they own Panasonic; there is also "M a t s u s h i t a"
