Warranty start date?????????

#1 Post by Stingray » Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:57 pm

Hi guys,
I bought a T-43 from an online retailer (authorized) last week. On the UPC code it indicates the the notebook was made on 11-24-05. The system came with a 3 year warranty. I just checked the lenovo website and it indicates that the warranty is set to expire in 11-08. Why is this the case when I bought and opend the system in 1-06??? I have the recipt from the online reseller to prove this. It is only a difference of 2 months but i am confused that why is the waranty starting from the date of manufacture... not the date of purchase? Any ideas? Can I take this up with Lenovo????
Thanks
AK

My understanding is that the warranty runs three years from date of purchase. If you call with a problem more than three years after the date it was built (the date they show the warranty expiring on) but within three years of purchase, you can send them a copy of the receipt to have warranty coverage until the 3-years-post-purchase date.

I wouldn't worry about it too much...the odds of something giving out in that two-month period are pretty small that I would just deal with it down the road if something happens.

Warranty

I ordered my form Lenovo on 12/21, (it was built on 12.15), it was shipped on the 23rd and I received it on the 27th.

Lenovo has the warranty date as 12/31.

Go figure.

OK...this is based on prior experience! I can't say this will be the case with LENOVO!

IF you buy from a re-seller....IBM will set the warranty from the MANUFACTURING date; IF you can provide the receipt and it was purchased new form an AUTHORIZED reseller, the they will honor the warranty!

Example: I had a TP (760?..can't remember which model) that I had purchased from a reseller, the TP DIED about 45 days before my warranty expired.....since IBM had the warranty from the MANUFACTURING date...I was informed that my warranty was no longer valid. I was OFF by 2 days!, I tried to find the receipt without any luck and I spoke with a supervisor; they approved any "warranty" repairs on the system since it was so close to the expiration date that they had. ( I found the receipt like two months later).

On another scenario, I purchased TWO T30's within a week of each other. One system showed up on the website (warranty(, the other DID NOT! I never had anything fail on them (one had a small piece of lint on the lcd backing); I noticed that from the day I received it, but for me to wait another two weeks until they built one and shipped it (SXGA, Bluetooth, etc) PLUS dealing with waiting till they refunded my money..it was a PITA! So I decided to try to live with it....about three months later, I called them to tell them I needed a new screen; according to their records, that machine serial DID NOT EXIST! I had to fax my POP (PURCHASED DIRECT FROM IBM), the lady was so nice that she extended my warranty coverage by OVER 30 days from the date of purchase; after that you could go into the website and when you checked warranty coverage it would show up.

So that said! Your receipt is your last word, NOT the date that is posted on the website, NOW if you have no POP...then it is from the manufacturing date.

Keep in mind that IBM will usually "round" the number out by about a week. If you buy it direct, they will add a few days+ from the purchase date to accomodate for shipping (again, I can't say that Lenovo will do that) < THIS IS ANOTHER STATEMENT THAT PROVES HOW MUCH ATTENTION TO DETAIL IBM HAD! LENOVO HAS SOME BIG SHOES TO FILL!

AND

hope that he never decides to call it LENOVO!

According to webopedia:

" "Lenovo" is a portmanteau word formed of "Le-"(from Legend) and "novo", the latin for "new"" AHHH! light went off.....maybe they will call it

Novo ThinkPad = New ThinkPad
