How to create restore disks?

#1 Post by nasa » Tue Jan 10, 2006 6:25 pm

I'm receiving my brand new thinkpad today and have been searching the forums for "first steps" to perform. It seems that the consensus is to create a set of restore disks. There are a lot of topics discussing this, but I have not found any saying exactly HOW to create them. Am I supposed to use the Windows XP apps such as System Tools>Backup, System Tools>System Restore, or something else?

I'm a little confused....could you please help? Thanks!

When you get the new machine press the access thinkpad button and look in the topic "How Do I" or some such wording and it gives all instructions on this in complete detail, thinkpads are famous for their on board tutorials and graphic displays of instructions for every task. The Lenvovo/IBM web site has video tutorials for various repair/upgrade tasks also.

Alright, will do. Thanks for the help...hopefully the access thinkpad button will give me what I'm looking for.

Frankly, I haven't had much success finding the information I've looked for by using the Thinkpad button. I'd prefer a written manual or at least one in .pdf format rather than their online only option.

To make restore disks, go to All Programs>> Thinkvantage>> Create Rescue and Recovery Media, select your appropriate "rescue media", check "Create a set of Product Recovery Discs now" and then click "OK" and the process will start.

I can say from experience that the newer T4x series have great on board tutorials, even little video like graphic displays that walk non-techie types through the basics of upgrading ram, removing/replaceing components. It is way more in depth than my t30.

I still recommend reading through the manuals located in the Access Thinkpad software and decide for yourself. Quite a lot of the posts you read on this site are answered within that program, and you will definately become an expert on your machine real quick.
