Backward compatibility of recovery disks?

#1 Post by sktn77a » Tue Jan 10, 2006 11:16 pm

I have a T40, T41 and T42 with original recovery CD sets for each computer. Over the two years between the T40 and T42, the OS (and probably drivers) have been updated and I would imagine the recovery CDs have also been updated to then-current versions. I believe the recover disks for each series have the drivers for all of the hardware options and that this is backwards compatible.

So my question is, has anyone used a recovery CD set from a T42 on a T41 or T40? This way, I'd get the most recent drivers and OS (SP2) on all machines.

Thanks
Keith

Am I the only one with multiple T4x series notebooks?

You may be :) . I looked at the set of recovery CD's I got from IBM for my T42 and on the label it specifies:

Product Recovery CD for - Thinkpad R52, T42, T42P type 1829, 1830, 1831, 1836, 1841, 2373, 2374, 2378, 2379.

Seems pretty specific. You could try it and see what happens if you are going to reformat anyway.

I am quite certain it will work. Often you will see fru # change as servicepacks releases.

The CDs are because of rational production quite generic.
