Graphics Card Problems

#1 Post by chuckles » Wed Jan 11, 2006 4:41 am

Hi, heres how the story goes.

I've had my Thinkpad R32 for two years, just last month the backlight on the monitor started to give me trouble - not turning on sometimes but could faintly see the screen. I lived with it until one day the screen started to flicker all different colours and then it would crash windows.

When this started to happen i decided to take the laptop apart, cleaned everything and put it back together. I change the memory stick, cleaned everything and put it all back together. The laptop somtimes powers up and sometimes works for 30minutes and then the same thing again.

When i connect an external monitor its fine till the lcd starts to play up again - which leads me to believe the graphics chip or motherboard is no good. I'm pretty sure the chip is solded onto the motherboard, i've tried lifting the chip slightly and then pressing it down.

What else can i do or what do you think is wrong? When i tap the laptop case itself both the lcd and the external screen flick with different lines and colours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
