Would you go for this?

#1 Post by Roark » Wed Jan 11, 2006 7:53 am

Not sure if this is 110% according to the board's rules (novice here, but can't wonder why it could be against any rational rule ...), but would you guys go for this eBay item?

eBay T41p ThinkPad

My mail concern is related to this issue:
IBM Factory Sealed Recertified

These remanufactured products are sold by IBM with a S-Claim classification, which means that they are in excellent
new/ near new condition.

They are carefully tested and recertified by IBM and come in a IBM factory sealed box. Computers include the original factory software load including OS and have a Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA).

Includes One Year IBM On-Site next business day warranty plus a 3 Year Mack International extended warranty

We are an Authorized IBM Business Partner and Service Center. The merchandise we offer is purchased directly from IBM. You will receive a proper invoice in your name with product part number and serial number. Your warranty will begin from the date of your invoice from us. Thank you for your business!
What do you think about refurbished laptops? Can I be 99,9% sure that the laptop is going to be reliable enough? Mack warranty? Can I trust that? Do you have some experience with that kind of warranty?

Raise your hand if you would go for this bargain, oh mighty ThinkPad experts! ;)

Any input would be extremely useful. Thanks in advance :)

Here's one thread on the subject of Mack warrantees. I don't know about the 3-month turnaround mentioned but Mack certainly doesn't compare with IBM/Lenovo's service.

I would not buy something with a Mack warranty. At least not anything costing anything close to a real amount of money (for me, over $300).

I'd hold out for something with a 3year warranty directly from the manufacturer. That's the only way to go with items susceptible to failure (including notebook computers).
