IBM T23 Questions

#1 Post by xnjselfdestructx » Wed Jan 11, 2006 10:33 pm

I just bought a refurbished IBM t23 computer PS-m 1.13ghz 512 nothing to fancy. what i have a question about is the fan will kick on once every 10 - 15 minutes stay on for about two then shut off and it will repeat. Is there anything i should be concerned about. Also the right pannel on the keyboard where the sticker that says intel inside its sorta hot like it makes my palm sweat should i be concerned about this?

Your fan appears to be operating normally. I'm not sure about the heat. I think your battery is under the right side of the palm rest. Is it charging?

The cpu fan will cycle when nessessary. PIII's run hot in ThinkPads. the cpu adjusts the clock speed to help control temps, yes the left side will get rather warm, just dont block any vents. Expect cpu temps between 50 and 80 degrees c. This is nothing to worry about, as long as you let the cpu control the fan and clock speed, it will run as designed.

The battery is under the "IBM Thinkpad" logo on the palmrest. The Hard Drive is under the "Intel Inside" and "Windows" stickers.

See this thread for a discussion and links to various temperature, etc. monitoring tools:

Hmmm, I guess IBM has the image reversed on their T23 System Service Parts page.

No, it isn't reversed. The battery is under the right side, and the hard drive is under the left.

Then it's likely your hard drive, which is also normal, I suspect. Did you d/l anything for temp monitoring. Many here use MobileMeter; it's free. :)

The HDD in a T23 will heat up a small room. That's normal.
