[HELP] IBM_SERVICE and "missing NTLDR"

#1 Post by projectbios » Mon Jan 16, 2006 2:38 am

Man 'o' man what a day.

Last night my laptop froze. It was late, so i said 'the heck with it' and just held the power to turn it off.

This morning i go to turn on my comp and i get a system/config error. And this is where the problems begin.

I hook the laptop drive upto my PC. I browse around looking for the system file so i can just copy it back over to the c: and get on with things. Only thing is i couldn't find it.

So i say screw it and just copy all my personal files to my main pc and prepare to reformat the laptop, using the recovery on IBM_SERVICE.

I place the harddrive back into the laptop and hit "ACCESS IBM"..... and then it happens...... NTLDR MISSING HIT CTRL + ALT +DEL.

Right then and there is knew i was in for some fun. I downloaded some apps one being the one from lenovo called rnrrepair.exe. Nothing has worked.

I know for a fact that all the contents are still in the IBM_SERVICE partition, untouched.

Does anyone know of a way to get this working again?

please, i'm desperate.................

EDIT: The main windows boot works fine, mind you, windows doesnt work because it's returning that system error. But i know it would work if that error wasn't present. ;) So the only problem here is with the IBM_SERVICE partition.

If you have a WinXP CD, boot with the CD and choose repair console. At the command prompt, log in with the Administrator password (only that one -- password for a user with admin privileges won't work) and type fixboot, then hit enter. This puts ntldr back where it should be.
