IBM Battery Maximiser Gauge Question [img's included]

#1 Post by lignicolos » Tue Jan 17, 2006 1:21 am

I have the little green gauge icon on my taskbar in Windows XP. Sometimes, the gauge image is sort of sunken into the taskbar, and other times it isn't. I'm just curious if the sunken one means anything, or maybe a reason why it happens. I've googled and read through the IBM documentation and I didn't notice anything about this. The maximiser threads here didn't address this either, that I noticed. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I have a T42, and I don't get the behavior like you describe. I have a Green Battery icon with the percentage of charge showing in the middle. To the right is a smaller icon that changes from a battery to an AC plug depending upon whether I am using the AC adapter or not.

Hmm, I probably didn't describe myself very clearly. Sorry about that. When I get home from work, i'll post a couple of screen shots of the behavior. If there is something weird about my setup, maybe this will help. Thanks for the reply.

Mine does the same thing every now and then. Normally, if I click the little system tray arrow to show the hidden system tray icons, it resets the sunken battery gague. No idea what the cause is, though!

Okay, I finally managed to get some screenshots. Here they are. I noticed that the sunken one occured when I opened the Terminal Services MMC thing that is included with the win2k3 admin pak. Other than that, no idea. I guess it could just be some weird bug with windows.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this occurs with the Luna Theme, the Windows Classic theme as well as the one i'm currently using, called Luna Element, so I don't think it's related to my use of a non-standard theme.

I get this same effect on my T21 from time to time. I think that it just a glitch in Windows, because it will go away sometimes, after I stop working on too many things at one time. Although, I haven't seen any real pattern as to when it happens.

P.S.
FWIW, you might want to change your Subject line in the original post to include [IMG], so that there is a warning to dial-up users (includes cell phones). Or, in the alternative, provide links instead of inserting the image into your last post. Posting images without a warning is a no-no.

Oh okay, thanks for the the img tip. I didn't realize it'd be a problem. The topic has been adjusted. Also, thanks for the info about it being just a bug. That's what i figured, but I wasn't quite sure. Thanks.

This problem occurs on my T40 from time to time.

But when I unlock the taskbar, change its size, change it back to normal and lock it again, the battery gauge is always back to a normal state (i dislike the "sunken" effect as well)

When your taskbar get's funny like that, you can do a trick where you click and drag a blank spot of your Taskbar to another extreme: left ... right ... top (where I keep my Taskbar) ... but don't drop it there, just drag it back to where you started and then release the mouse button.

I find this "refreshes" the graphic rendering of the Taskbar

i have the same problem from time to time as well. i find that if i just expand the system tray by clicking on the arrow and then unexpand it, the gauge returns to normal.

**EDIT** figured it out.

I accidentally closed my green battery icon and can't seem to get it back, even after a restart. Can someone help me as I am pretty noob when it comes to computers. Thanks!

did you go to programs-access ibm-battery optimizer?

im having a little problem too- the regular blue battery icon on the taskbar isnt going away after i uncheck for it to be displayed on the taskbar...

its kind of annoying wanting to use the maximizer, but having the blue icon there too telling a completely different time remaining.

Open it up, one of the options is to display the icon on the Taskbar. Just re-enable it.

thanks for you help david!

with the little blue battery icon, i just right click the taskbar / go to properties / click the hide inactive icon box / then go to custimize. i set the blue battery to always hide. hope this helps.

This works with the battery icon provided by Windows. However, when you use IBM's Battery MaxiMiser, you will not find the icon there. To reenable IBM's battery icon, launch Battery MaxiMiser Wizard in Start > All Programs > Access IBM, and when the proper screen displays, check box to: Show Battery Maximiser Gauge on Taskbar.

I think we need to lock. This thread has drifted right and left and now I'm getting airsick. :(
