CLOCK cahnging DIAGNOSIS?

The clock on my T42 changes all the time, advancing several hours... can anyone diagnose this problem?

Certain Thinkpad models (including the X61) have a BIOS quirk that limits the CPU clock speed to 1.2GHz when running the laptop on a 65w AC adapter...

I just put in a new clock battery from a T430s. Everything matched up(polarity,connector,etc.) and it still keeps forgetting the time and date...
