LCD Diagnosis Request
LCD Diagnosis Request
Hi Everyone. Great forum!
Here's a question regarding my TP600X. I've had this laptop from the beginning. Absolutely my favorite and most reliable computer ever. Recently, the LCD starting giving me trouble.
First, I would here a high-pitch, whining sound coming from the LCD. Now the LCD won't stay lit. Connecting to a monitor works. I've also noticed that if I close the unit and re-open it, the screen will light up for a few seconds and then go dark again.
Tried replacing the Inverter Card, but no luck yet. Also checked all cables and they seem to be secure.
Based on your experience, what can this be? Thanks ahead of time!

Have you considered that the backlight may be going out?
There's a sticky post up top with a good step-by-step on how to replace it (haven't tried it myself, but my backlight is still working ok (though it is sometimes a little sluggish getting up to full brightness).

You say the backlight won't remain lit. How is the brightness when lit, is it dim? Does the tint start out reddish then get whiter? Does it take a while to warm up? How do you know the inverter you got was good? Are the symptoms the same? If you bought an inverter off eBay or someting it could very well be bad as I doubt many vendors do extensive testing; if they turn it on and it works they assume it's good to go. Unless brightness is bad I'd suspect your "new" inverter.
