to what is it connected? to a Euro-scart input or a true S-video input? And how old is your tv-set and what format is your playback video in?

your TV has to support S-video through your euro-scart. Most TVs that dont have a physical S-video port dont do this. Zap through your different AV-input channels untill you find S-video if you have any. If you have two euro-scart ports, try the other one.

Since you are using S-Video to EuroScart, another issue might be the video system in use. Outside the US, most multi-system TVs can show images from a NTSC input signal but cannot output it in color since they default to assuming PAL/SECAM or MESECAM inputs. Another symptom of this is 'letterboxing' where you get a black band above and below the main picture. If you have this letterbox effect going on ( almost like you would see if you played a WideScreen DVD in a regular TV), the problem is almost certainly that your TV is PAL only while you Thinkpad is putting out NTSC via the SCART connector. The letterboxing is due to the fact that NTSC/VGA are 640x480 while PAL is 768x576. If this is the case, the limitation here is your TV and not your Thinkpad. You can find some techinical information about this issue here.

You can probably change this on your TV by choosing the right input system but the procedure for doing this varies from TV to TV so the final authority is your TV users manual.
