Anyone Try a Seagate Momentus 7200.1 in Z60M?

#1 Post by gbdesai » Wed Jan 18, 2006 12:19 pm

I ordered and got a Seagate 7200.1 100GB 7200RPM drive from NewEgg. I obviously got the SATA version. First I tried it in my Ultrabay SATA adapter, it doesn't recognize it. I have two other 5400RPM drives that work fine in the ultrabay adapter.

Then I replaced the main drive with the Seagate and I get nothing at boot, it just hangs after the startup screen and security authentication. If I boot off the Ultrabay, as soon as Windows logs in, I get a blue screen of death.

I thought this drive was supposed to work flawlessly, think I just have a bad drive? I have no way of testing since all of my testing equipment is PATA based.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Are the other 2 5400rpm drives branded IBM or Non-IBM? Also, who made those drives and what part numbers.

Works:
IBM PART: Toshiba MK1032GSX (came with the system 5400RPM 100GB)
NOT DIRECTLY FROM IBM: Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 HTS541010G9SA00 100GB 5400 RPM 8MB (from NewEgg.com details at http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6822146051; I find this to be a lot faster than the Toshiba; about 10%-20% by HDTach benchmarking)

Doesn't Work:
NOT DIRECTLY FROM IBM: Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST910021AS 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache (from NewEgg.com details at http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6822146226)

Thoughts? Maybe its just a bad drive. I have no way to test it without sending for a new one. If I can confirm it worked for someone I can ask for a replacement otherwise I'll want a refund.
