T40 ..REPLACED...Laptop ARRIVED 02/20/2006! 2378-R4U

#1 Post by draco2527 » Thu Jan 19, 2006 12:20 am

Well, it came back under a week! Unfixed, or should I say..I got a new keyboard and palmrest...but they did not fix the power issue (laptop will not come on) or fix the broken hinge snapped in two...this caused the lower base to crack (small crack..still a PITA)!

So I called IBM and filed a complaint..their Technical Team will be looking at it ASAP when the unit goes in and will FIX ALL problems as stated by the rep!

I also mentioned that the screen has rub marks from the keys rubbing on it do to the broken latch (there is no "white spots" due to too much pressure on LCD), if the Technical Team can look at it and get it replaced....

On a GOOD note......Customer service was great, with no more then a 2 minute wait to talk to a live person, on the 20+ calls I have made!

I will keep you all updated!!!! I tried to get it to a local repair shop, but IBM said "You must" send it back in....so we can make it right....so here goes their 2nd shot at it!

Hopefully the box will be here before 7AM so I can send it out ASAP...

HA! I was looking at the calendar and I know what did it!!! I send the bloody thing in on FRIDAY 13TH!

Second trip was on the 20th....and today is...

01/24/2006continued......

OK.......BACK AGAIN...Board replaced...BUT

NO HINGE FIXED, NO LOWER BASE ASSEMBLY REPLACED...LCD had someones fingerprints and palm-rest had..someones palm prints (dirty palms)..LCD was not changed either....

So I called IBM to file a second complain...they apologized about 1 million times; saying this happens only once in a while! I was nice and spoke with the guy for about 55 minutes, the concerns; the issues that had not been fixed (this guy is a Supervisor at ibm...!!!)

Tomorrow I am to get a call from him on a resolution for this, he said we will try to work something out and maybe we can resolve it without me having to send the system in for repair!? THEN I mentioned a T42p discount/free with "exchange" and he did not say no...then I think I pushed it too far and I said "a free T60 and you can have the T40 back" and I got some laughs). He will try to find a resolution that satisfies me, since I am really ticked with the service center (not really IBM, it is outsourced) I complained that Lenovo should try to keep a closer eye on the place!! So I will keep you guys posted!!

The screws were a nightmare also, the guy did a good job of replacing the MOBO but he did a horrible job of stripping the heads on the bottom case screws! and he should have seen the broken hinge when he replaced the MOBO.....I think they are going to tell me to send it back in...anything more then that and I will consider it a BONUS!

i just sent mine in for repair. Box came in early yesterday and got it sent out before 5pm. Your turnaround seemed to be very good. You got yours back in 4 days? I hope mine comes back really soon. Does anyone know if they deliver it on the weekends also?

4 days counting the weekend, so they are about the same as IBM in the old days (however IBM would fix it..LOL!) 72HRs from the time you dropped it off at DHL.

If they ship it on Friday, and MAKES IT to the center by Saturday; you can call them and schedule to pick it up. Here DHL (center) is open until 1pm on Saturdays.

Let us/me know how it went.

IBM\Lenovo has part numbers that relate to them, they also have IDENTICAL parts that carry DEPOT FRU's so they can identify were they came from.

All depot and IBM FRU's have the same length in characters, the system is known for "choping" things up, so I think you are missing a few characters that are not displaying.

Well, talked to IBM\Lenovo again today...they want me to give them ONE more shot!

They said that if it comes back and ALL the issues are not resolved, they will get me a new laptop! :D

For once I am hoping they DO NOT repair it right!!! I'll keep you all posted.

If this repair isn't successful, I'd recommend getting in touch with Executive Relations. That's what I did.

In my case even ER couldn't fix my A31, so they replaced it.

Sounds like you're close to getting everything done right.

But, FYI, I had an R40 with a problem that IBM attempted fixing three times. After that, they swapped a brand new, much higher-spec'd R51 for it.

I'm very happy with IBM support :)

man they almost sent it back to me saying there was nothing wrong. apparantly that thing saying failing part number was a misprint. i asked them to check again for the blue screens and they found out the system board was the fault. catch is they don't know when they'll be able to get that part since they'll have to get it oversees. Sucks so much that I have to wait prolly a week or so for the part to come. They couldn't give me any kind of ETA. I guess i have to play the waiting game. However good thing is that it will be fixed. Just sucks I can't have it now. Asked for a loaner system and they said only employees of ibm can do that.

Wow :!: Pramit, sorry you had such a bad experience, gotten any movie offers on the book yet :) I like chapt 56 the MESSAGE FROM VERONICA! Thought I heard some inaudible screams of pain in the background where she could be torturing other thinkpad troublemakers, busting thier kneecaps with hammers, slamming the LCD down on their fingers. ouchh!
I think she is just a computer herself, had that kind of that mono toneish computer voice like from the movies. "Hello Pramit, why are you angry with me Pramit, you don't want to make me angry Pramit" The good part is when they finally get you a computer back but it is a completely different model very strange looking and when you open it veronicas face is there and talks back and makes your life a living hell because you can't send the computer back through any carriers, ups, fedX, dhl, US mail, no one will take it so your stuck with it for days in your apartment, alone. creeepey!!  The only way to take it back is by commercial jet and she takes the jet over because of her special computer powers and crashes the plane into the appalachian mountains and you and her survive, but by this time her 20 hour battery is running down, you are finally rescued by helicopter but the evil laptop is left there, possibly to be found by some mountain folk (for Part II of course) mountain folk with an evil smart laptop with a pretty girl picture inside. :?:

Let's see first you cut me down, then you agree with me? Mood swings, bipolar are we? It was a bit of fun, I shall refrain in the future.

Sorry moderators for going off topic, but pramits experience is the worst I have heard to date.

Pray Sir, do not refrain, posts like the one you made are the marshmallows in life's cup of cocoa. Like you, I need to blow off steam once in while. I was also just having a bit of fun, reading the post now, I can see how that might have been misinterpreted.

CONTINUED....

Today I called, the machine has shipped....they replaced the motherboard AGAIN...there was nothing wrong with it!

I had it running for 12 hours on diags, the motherboard perfomed A++.

They said ,that nothing else was fixed. I get it tomorrow, IBM/Lenovo is getting it, if all issues are not resolved! All the other issues, it seems; were not addressed and they replaced the MOBO twice!!!

3X's already! in for service

PS

They did "update" the bios in the SECOND MOTHERBOARD and they INSTALLED the latest version of PC Doctor, since mine was "out of date". Guess they missed that on the first and second run!!!!

Did they forget to notice the CRACKED HINGE and the LCD not properly attached? As well as the stress fracture that the hinge failure caused on the lower case?

BUT I imagine I will get the same paperwork tomorrow, GLORIFING how everything was extensivly checked to make sure that it was in top shape!

Obviously draco works for HP or Apple or Dell.

Nobody has "luck" like this guy.

Oh, and in the event this all really did happen, sorry, stay away from ladders and black cats, but enjoy the new laptop you'll be getting - hope IBM upgrades you!

I wished I worked for the other company, then you know I would be making this stuff up!

Here are the case/call numbers assigned to the depot. From first to last

20VSJ88
DNTRSQL
23QHDSJ

Here is the statement provided by "ibm" on the last call

"01/24 1915 CU WANTS TO FILE A COMPLAINT SEE 20VSJ88, DNTRSQL - UNIT CAME DEPOT A 2ND TIME WORSE OFF_*_SEE TIB "

THEY HAVE UPDATED the status to shipped at 13:51pm....I have not received "the call" saying that they found it..............
