Using 755CD components in a 760EL

#1 Post by DamienC » Thu Jan 19, 2006 6:04 pm

I just picked up a 760EL on eBay to replace my dead 755CD.

Seeing as how most of the 755 components were fine, which can I use in the 760EL? My new lappy has a 1.3gb hard drive so I'm no so much concerned about that. What I'm really hoping will work in the 760 is the 2X CD-ROM, and maybe the battery.

But if I recall correctly, because of the shape of the 760's system board, the 760 series CD-ROM's have a large notch in the top right corner to accomodate the new shape. I'm not positive however.

Any ideas?

I don't think the CD drive will fit into your new 760. I used to own a 755CD as well (really nifty little machine, what the hell was I thinking when I parted with it?) and the 755 cd drive didn't have the cutout in the right top corner like the 760 drives do. However, a 760 cd drive will work without flaw in a 755.

Oh, and I hope everything goes well with your new 760. Those computers can be on the slow side but they are pretty reliable if you have all the patches and updates installed and they can take one hell of a beating. Just don't type too hard on the keyboard lest you wear it out.
