T4x quality VS. T30

#1 Post by NeilB » Thu Jan 19, 2006 9:33 pm

I'm pondering another laptop purchase, and I wonder - is the T42 or T43 built as well as my T30? This unit has seen two direct 4 foot to floor drops and been fine. And worked very well for almost four years.

Wonder if any of you have owned both.

TIA,

Neil

I owned a T30 and now a T41 and been happy with both. Both could take some knocks with no ill effect. ... JD Hurst

I have both, can't really say which I like better. :) They're both outstanding machines.

I agree with the above statements! I had two T30's (one was SXGA the other one XGA), I currently have a T40 and a T41!! I had the 1.8(P4M) in one and the 2.0(P4M) on the other, with 1GB ram....NOW...when doing some installations and decompressing files; the T30's were fast...BUT the T41 (1.6M) was a lot quicker....I still had one T30 when I aquiered the T41 and you could tell the difference in performance!

LOOK before you buy, I just "lost" a great deal on a T42p with DVD burner, 1GB ram...etc, etc for $1,300! The only reason I hesitated, was due to the fact that it was the 15" screen and not the 14.1 that I want to get!

I am on the lookout for a T41p (second try) OR a T42p!

Depending on specs there is a dealer here in michigan that can get them (they GO quick) if he has any in stock and you want to pick one up...he WANTS a deposit (they fly out the door)! They start in the $1000 range for a "low end" t41p and go all the way up to the loaded T42p for $1,400 (you slap $1,300 cash instead of CC and he takes it in a heartbeat).

Let me know if you are interested in giving him a call and I can drop you the number! ( I am not sure if he will ship OUT of state)

Could you tell me what the P designation denotes?

Thanks!

SXGA screen and 128MB Video card.....and bluetooth..... EDIT: (I am not sure if the T42p has blue-tooth standard)

and I noticed I forgot the best part!!!

p=PERFORMANCE! I have never played any "games" on the TP, keep in mind that the video card is designed more towards CAD users then gamers! (Fire GL)

Games don't run well on T4xp at all. The video card is just not up to it.
But no gamers buy TP anyway.

Subjectively, but rarely true!

I fancy that a T41p/T42p with a T2 (9600) or the T43p with a V3200 (X600) would run most games just fine, albeit not on high resolutions.

I too have dropped my T30 numerous times for some high heights and while plastic bits keep falling off of it, it still works.

I think the T4* is just as sturdy, possibly more so if anything. I have no evidence to back this up but I think that the 14" models might be sturdier than the 15" models as I don't think the slight screen overhang
