Pcmcia problem
Pcmcia problem
Hi
I have a t42p and I recently bought a pcmcia memory card reader (sandisk 6in1 imagemate) but it's not working
I have winxp sp2 so I shoudn't have to install any drivers
When I plug in my pcmcia card, I have a "tadada" sound from winxp and when I check in the config manager, I have a yellow ? and a yallow ! next to the memory card
So I tried to install it but it's not working
I tried the card on another laptop and it's working perfectly so the problem comes from my t42p or from windows
Do you have any idea of what I should do?
Thx

Memory card reader
Have you tried to erase the yellow exclamationmark and restart.
Perhaps with a memorycard installed in the reader, but be cautious I have erased a card that way.
Good luck !

sandisk card reader
Hmmm .. Seems like the only driver that that Sandisk offers is for Win98SE
Have your used the software installer from Lenovo to update all your drivers?

Errr, wait a sec...They only offer a driver for the 6-in-1 Memory Card reader for Windows 98SE
Either they trust Windows 2000 and XP too much; or it doesn't need a driver, which I doubt.

PCMCIA
Remembering back I seem to be able to remember one instance where a CF card reader for the PCMCIA didnt work right away.
What I did about it I did not quite remember, but I have surely seen them work rigth away with the built-in XP drivers

Surely its an issue with the infamous Windows, but befor I put my money down on it, I would ask you to verify if any other PCMCIA card is working in your T42p. If not, the un-install and re-install your PCMCIA cardbuss drivers and then use your card.
If another PCMCIA card works fine, the its a driver issue with your new card. The standard driver fixing issues apply. I am having problems with my Access Connections and no matter what, I havn't goten it to work again.

I had one card slot go bad on a 600E that I had. A fresh install of Windows made no difference. The other card slot still works fine. Oddly enough, the system diagnostics in the BIOS or in Windows showed no problem with either slot. So you could have a hardware problem with the slot. As cerebral_mamba suggested, try a different card in the slot. Also try both slots.

I wish I could help you out!, I am having the same problem with BOTH of mine for any PCMCIA card I use on the T41!
Let us know if you find anything!

The utility has its limitations, it only tests the "chip set" for the device (same on USB), for pinouts then you would need a loopback tester! IBM sells all kinds of testers..but they are EXPENSIVE!Oddly enough, the system diagnostics in the BIOS or in Windows showed no problem with either slot.
