T41 wireless connection issue intel Pro 2300

#1 Post by TJ » Sat Jan 21, 2006 5:59 am

HAving upgraded my hard drive with the help of this forum :D I have loaded up all updates from IBM including Thinkvantge access connection 3.81 and I have problems. I have uninstalled the above and am just using the XP software
The router and connection are fine I am on this through a dell tower wireless to the same router

The T41 connection is intermittent, using the ethernet the connection is ok but I can't connect to a number of websites inclusding this one! I can't download to a number of well known sites or the connection is slow, quite often I get the cannot connect to server.

Is it a windows explorer problem, what can I try beginning to lose patience and wife getting very bored!

first thing I would do is to un-install the wireless driver and then install the latest driver. If you are not using access connections, then go to your wireless manufacturer's website and download their latest driver and try if this fixes the issue.

If not, then the issue is kinda problem to fix. Since you didn't have the issue before, i would say its definitely windows. 99% of all the problems with a PC are windows. We hardware engineers are pretty sincere in making working and good stuff. Its those software folks out there that are akin to lawyers perfecting in fooling people, cutting corners and making money that causes all known problems ::IMO::

Thanks i have uninstalled and reinstalled the lataest drivers for the Intel pro 2100 lan 3b etc and this seems a little more stable
I am connected to the router box but can't connect to the internet,
No problem on the other machine which I am posting from

Talk me through in more detail what else you would download

I feel like I have some kind of conflict problem

Still can't get out to all web sites through the ethernet connection - bizarre

Do I need a fresh copy of IE?

If you can connect to the router (wirelessly), but not the internet, try unplugging the router and modem, and reboot your computer. Sometimes you have to do these things to restore or make a connection.

Are you sure you have an Intel Pro 2300? I would suspect you have an Intel Pro 2100 or 2200. You can download the wireless driver and Access Connections from the following page. Make sure you have Access Connections uninstalled, then install the wireless driver. Reboot. Make sure you have Wireless Zero Configuration service Started and set to Automatic (go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services). Now see if you can make a connection to the internet. If successful, then you can try and install Access Connections. For Access Connections, stopping and disabling Wireless Zero Configuration service seems to work better.

Note: The wireless adapter drivers can be found by clicking on the appropriate link in the chart on the middle of the page.

I have done a number of things
I have rolled back the driver to ver 1.2.2.9
Yes I meant 2100 (cant read)

I seem to be rock solid again

May try and down load the new Access coneections - would you recommend it I think I have to put the newer driver on which it didn't like and the bizarre thing on accessing various websites seems to be caused by Zone alarm not anything else i.e some sites just won't let me in with this programme runing
I have Sophos anti virus and Spyware stormer
Any intelligence on that?

Many thanks

You have to have the newest wireless driver installed to use the version of Access Connections that is downloadable from IBM (currently version 4.01). You may still have the original version of Access Connections on your ThinkPad. Look for Setup.exe C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\CONWIZ\ directory.

I don't know what your problem is with ZoneAlarm. You could try a different software firewall. I use Kerio Personal Firewall on my ThinkPad. They have a free version as well as an upgraded version for a fee, just like ZoneAlarm.
