600E Audio Drivers for 2000

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Sat Jan 21, 2006 7:54 pm

When I first got my 600E, I put Windows 98 on it and I had to install audio drivers from the internet and they worked great; the audio was excellent. Now I have 2000 and there are no downloadable drivers and IBM says the audio support is built into Windows 2000. Problem is the Windows 2000 drivers, at least on my machine, sound like total crap. While audio was rather nice under 98, under 2000 with the built in drivers, my music sounds like it's running through a tin can. Are there any Windows 2000 drivers out there that will take full advantage of the sound system in my ThinkPad or am I stuck with the Win2k built in ones?

Try installing the Win98 drivers anyway and see if it works. I know that sound has been ok in the 600Es that I have had running XP.

Well, adjusting the specific volume contrls on the Windows mixer seems to have helped very significantly so I'm not going to go out of my way to get new drivers now but I still think the 98 ones gave better audio. I'll see if the 98 drivers work later on when I find my CD that I burned all my downloaded drivers to.
