T23 with Docking Station and PS2 External Mouse

#1 Post by eric1234 » Sun Jan 22, 2006 8:43 am

Hi,

I recently bought a refurb T23 (with Win2k) which I basically love.

Here is the one current problem I am facing.

When I hook the T23 up to the docking station, all works perfectly, EXCEPT my PS2 mouse. The laptop just does not recognize it. Video, keyboard, ethernet all work perfect.

I tried re-booting - to no avail.
I tried restarting with the mouse hooked up to the PS2 port on the laptop, still no response.

I've tried "adding hardware" - but couldn't find a mouse.

I've pretty much run out of ideas. Anyone else ever have this problem? Any solutons or suggestions?

Thanks ever so much,
ERic

Looked for a bent pin in the PS/2 plug?

yeah, plug is fine.

I think the problem is the need to get the computer to recognize the mouse...

If the mouse works in another system and all IBM drivers are installed in the ThinkPad, then maybe the connection between the I/O card and systemboard is bad. You can get another systemboard/base for real cheap on Ebay.

Or you can buy a usb mouse.

I think your mouse is bad, try it on another system or try another mouse.
Win2k should recognize almost any PS/2 mouse natively with no need for drivers. The specific drivers should only add functions like side buttons, ect.

I have the same problem as well.....it can't recognized my PS/2 mouse. I think it is somehow due to some compatibility of hardware. I bought my docking station second hand......and the owner had used it for few times only....still looks brand new.

This is what popped into my head after reading the first post in this thread. Try the mouse on another machine.

If the mouse changing thingy doesn;t work....most probably your situation is the same with mine. But anyway, I would like to know anyone out there having the same problem with their T23 and docking station?

Just read this... I have no problem with the PS2 ports on my dock and an external mouse plus external numeric keypad... works fine. I have not used any USB ports as of yet, but have an external housing for a second HDD that I will eventually plug in to a USB port on the dock.

try the ps/2 port without the dock and you'll know whether its the docking station or not. also check in the bios the whether the port is enabled or not.

Just replaced my trackball mouse with an optical, and it worked horribly in the PS2 port. I took off the adapter and plugged it into a USB port on the dock and it works 200% better. It's one of those tiny IBM travel mice I got cheap on eBay. Works nice on a desktop with limited space.... too much paperwork piles up there, lol. PN on it is FRU 31P7410 and it's very small but works well.
