Cracked my LCD

#1 Post by Jebus » Sun Jan 22, 2006 12:41 pm

Well, as the title says, I cracked the LCD.
I fell down a flight of stairs and the screen is now cracked on the upper-right corner. There is a large white area all the way to the bottom of the screen.
The plastic cover (outside) seems to be alright.

The part number I recieved from IBM is 11P8352, does this seem correct?

how difficult are these to replace?

any suggestions at all of where to obtain the LCD, or to install would be appritiated.

The laptop is a t42-2378-duu

thanks in advance,
craig

Hi,

First of all, it appears that you posted in the wrong forum. Hopefully a mod will move it for you, to allow for more input.

Replacing your LCD isn't too hard, if you use your Hardware Maintenance Manual as a guide. It will also let you verify the correct part numbers for your LCD.

Here is your Hardware Maintenance Manual:

If one of the mods don't do it on their own, ask one to move this thread to the T4x forum. It seems to get a lot more attention than this forum.

Edit: It looks like someone moved it while I was posting this.

Maybe try calling IBM if they can sell you a replacement LCD. Oh man, I think i would cry for a few days if I broke my LCD screen. Good luck buddy!

You might see if you can find one on e-bay. It is easier to replace the whole lid, than just the LCD. I bought a lid for a 600E on e-bay and replaced it. It wasn't too hard of a job. Just be very careful with any ribbon cable connectors you have to disconnect.
