FINALLY! Got my T42p.

#1 Post by T23_Owner » Fri Jul 16, 2004 12:29 am

I finally got my T42p model 2373-KTU. Its awesome. It has some of the design flaws mentioned here like loose battery but man who cares. This thing is so fast and slim. I love it. I am doing speed tests on it vs my T23 and am writing a review. I will post it next week. For now though if you are thinking about a T42 model get it. You won't be sorry.

Best thing about it is I got if for FREE from IBM. They replaced my T23 model with the T42p because they made 2 attempts to fix the T23 and failed. All I have to do is send my T23 to them now. What great service from IBM. IBM forever for laptops end of story.

Time to play with this machine some more.

Oh, by the way PERFECT SCREEN. No bad pixels. YEAH!

That's quite generous of them. T23 for a top of the line T42p? Why didn't they give you any other T42? Did you insisted for it or what?

Anyway, how's the KB? Is it the Thai one? LCD, is it the IDtech?

Keyboard isn't as good as T23. Screen is really nice. Battery doesn't stay in unless I lock it, palmrest creeks. Same symptoms as anyone here. I got the T42p because my T23 had 1gb ram and a multiburner. The T42p is the only laptop that could meet it on specs.

Sounds great mate! And I guess the price acannot be beaten!

It's funny, I've got a KTU myself but the palmrest doesn't creak (well, Ok, if I really try to press on it repeatdly, it will ever so slightly but that's hardly noticeable in normal use) and the battery (a Sanyo, 6 cell though as I got it swapped from Bill when I purchased the machine) fits in quite nicely.

No bad pixels either.

I had a Thai-made US keyboard which was fitted quite well but when I replaced it with a Thai-made Swiss keyboard, I had to use a little piece of support tape on the lower right corner - nothing too difficult though. It's true that the "touch" of the keyboards has not improved compared to previous models though (like my 770X was better than my A20p, which was better than my T30 which in turn was better than my T42p). But it's still very acceptable and I'm sure that it's only a matter of days to get used to it.

The only thing I am a bit annoyed by is the performance of the wireless card which seems to be a bit crap compared to that of my old T30 (it started by not working at all, now it's kind of OK but I had to change some settngs on my AP such as let it accept WEP in addition to WPA although I am using WPA - oh well).

Guess you're going to have to change your username now ;-)

Enjoy your KTU. I think it's the best TP you can have... at least for a few more months ;-)

That is the most amazing customer service story I've ever heard!

I'm so glad I bought an IBM over the other laptop companies and stories like yours only confirm that I made the right choice.
