T21 CPU Upgrade?

#1 Post by NTL1991 » Sun Jan 22, 2006 6:44 pm

Hello. Is it at all possible to upgrade the 800Mhz P3M CPU in my T21 Laptop to a faster one? Maybe like a 1.0Ghz 100Mhz FSB or would a 133Mhz FSB work too? Or can I not upgrade the CPU at all?

Thanks,

Nick

EDIT: BTW, where is the best place to get ram upgrades (cheapest) for my laptop. I want to go to 512MB and I have 2 sticks of 128MB in it now.

You would be better off increasing the ram size and installing a faster hard drive. Pentium clock speed is a negligible factor....

OK, what speed HD should I consider? I have a 30GB TravelStar HD (rpm ?) but would a faster one degrade Battery life faster?

Thanks,

Nick

Yours is likely 4200rpm. 5400 should work, and likely 7200. You might search the forum here to find out for sure as some machines do get an error with 7200 drives. You shouldn't notice decreased battery life as there is very little difference in consumption, even with a 7200 from the specs I read at Hitachi's site, in fact, your battery may last longer as it won't be seeking and reading/writing as long as a slower drive; Idle power consumption was the same between 4200 and 7200 IIRC.
