770ED - Boot from DVD for Linux install

#1 Post by SQLDba » Fri Jul 16, 2004 12:43 am

Got a 770ED with a bad battery - but otherwise pretty good machine. Looking to install Linux on it just for fun.

I have a bootable CD that in other machines upon reboot, will start the installation process on the machine. Unfortunately, I can't recall how to set the 770 so it looks to the DVD / CD player first on reboot. Normally this is either an F12 on newer machines or some setting in BIOS - but I can't recall how to get into the BIOS on this machine.

I've checked the user manual on the IBM site - but no luck. Can some refresh my memory please?

Thanks

Hold F1 during power on until Easy setup appears.....go in to Startup....click reset on the side and set cd first, floppy second, and HDD1 third.....exit back to the main screen,restart.....

Good to Go....

Later...
