I own a T42s (2373-K5H) that comes with only a CD-RW (specifically, it does not come with a DVD-Writer).

Just bought an external DVD-Writer that connects by USB 2.0 cable.
My Win'XP-Pro SP2 actually recognized the machine automatically with no driver installation. (Eagletec DVRWD2UK-E USB 2.0V)

Yes... the T42's Record Now v7 works fully with non-Lenovo and non-IBM external DVD-Writers, even though my T42s (2373-K5H) came only with CD-RW.

(FYI, my DVD-Writer came with Sonic's Record Now, but was actually older version than the (very) similar program on my T42... hence I did not want to uninstall my T42's one and install the older Sonic version)
