Which is the oldest/slowest T2x/T3x to include USB2 please?

#1 Post by teepee » Mon Jan 23, 2006 8:06 am

Hi

I am looking for a used laptop that I can connect to my hi-fi for a specific project. For this I need a minimum 1Ghz processor, plus Cardbus, USB2 and Ethernet. Basically I'm looking for the cheapest and/or quietist option. Could anyone tell me which T2x andor T3x models were the first to meet these minimum specs please? I'm posting a similar query in the R/A/G forum and the 770 etc forum, as I'm unfamiliar with anything pre T4x.

All the best :-)

See my reply in your 600/770/Transnote thread...

But the short answer is the T23 was the first T2x series to originally come with a 1.0, however USB 2.0 wasn't until later, but you can add 2.0 by adding a PCMCIA card.

I need the Cardbus slot for another piece of equipment

Many thanks tfflivemb2 :-)

Which would be the first model with USB2 built-in please? The problem is that I need a double height Cardbus slot for a different piece of equipment, so the single slot on any T series would be unavailable for USB2 use.

All the best!

Many thanks guys

As I need to use a double height Cardbus card looks like its a T4x for me :-). Which is fine, as I like the series (presently own a T42 for more regular use).

All the best!

Is there a way to get USB 2.0 ports in/on a T22?

Yes and it is inexpensive. You can get a nice two to four USB 2 port PC Card off eBay for under $40 total (including S/H). I suggest one that will work without external power but comes with a USB power cord. That is what I have. My Sandisk Combo 128MB /Wi-Fi card would not work until I plugged in the external cord and it has excellent low-power management!

I would make sure the added power source is USB and not battery or a wall plug, features than kind of undermine the convenience of having a notebook PC.

You will lose use of your other PC Card slot. Regardless of which slot you use, the USB 2 adapters block full access to the other PC Card Slot. I stopped using PC wi-fi cards. Fortunately, I already had a Netgear USB Wi-fi adapter, which throughputs at USB 2 speeds plugged into the USB 2 PC Card.
