t21 memory advice request

#1 Post by fernmo » Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:10 am

I have two 128mb memory sticks in my t21.
I wish to upgrade the total from 256mb to 512mb.
Do I have to install two 256mb memory sticks and thus populate both slots or can I install one 512mb stick in either slot?
The latter option is cheaper.

It's questionable whether there is a 512mb chip that will work in a T21. I've never seen one on eBay. 256mb seems to me the maximum size.

T21's are notoriously picky about memory. Do a search here for "T21 memory" for some examples.

You'll need PC-100 lo-density memory (usually 8 chips per side) to be sure the chip will be recognized. There's one for sale here:

Fernmo,

I also have a T21, I went to http://www.crucial.com to see what memory is available for the T21 and the max amount available is 512MB: 2 256MB 144-pin PC133 SODIMMs, that's it. You cannot go any higher, 1 512MB SODIMM will not work. Check your type number and model number @ IBM to make sure. I'm just giving you what I know from my type and model of the T21.

Hope this helps,
