Graphics capabilities of the X series

#1 Post by nsuperman86 » Fri Jul 16, 2004 4:35 am

I am a new college student and am looking into getting a X series thinkpad. I want something lightwieght and small, but still has some power with it.

This laptop was so close to perfect, but then I noticed that the best I can get with it is a 16MB ATI video card.

I was hoping for a 32MB vid. card because I use some graphics programs such as adobe photoshop.

Now the catch is that I will be able to use my school's design studio so I can do the bulk of my graphics work in there, but I would still like to use photoshop to edit some photos and to do some small projects.

Has the 16mb vid card been enough for most other users, especially ones that do a few more graphic things?

If 16mb cannot handle those circumstances, then I am gonna have to move up to the T series. :?

How can you do graphic design on a 12.1" screen??? I'd suggest you get a 14.1" SXGA+ T series.

You seem to have misunderstood the point of graphics memory. For standard 2D work which Photoshop is, you only need enough memory for the resolution you are running and if I recall correctly 16MB should be enough to run 2 screens at 2048x1560.. So that shouldn't be a problem. But the fact that the X31 and X40 both uses a 12'' screen might be an issue for serious graphics work...

When at my desk, I have my X30 connected to a 20" 1600x1200 TFT which is perfect for Photoshop work. X's graphics card works just fine with 2D apps.

Which is the reason I said it was an issue not a problem :)
But you would "have" to get an external large monitor to be able to be productive in Photoshop with an X40....
