T40 Questions

#1 Post by dwallace » Fri Jul 16, 2004 9:21 am

Ganglia,

I'm a big fan of my T21 but always in search of the proverbial upgrade. Built-in wireless chip would be nice. But what does "upgradeable" mean when IBM's site describes the wireless in certain models?

Also, I'm not excited by Touchpad (preferring the trackpoint) so do all the models after T23 come with both pad and point? If so I'll probably go the T23 route.

Thanks
David

"wireless upgradeable" means that IBM has the atenna built into the screen of the laptop, you just need to buy a miniPCI wireless card (from IBM) and install it. The 802.11g compatible wireless card goes for around $80-$100.

As for the touchpad, you can disable it in the windows control panel, or you can buy a different palmrest that does not have a touchpad. I've always preferred to use the trackpoint ball, only until recently I've gotten used to the touchpad. I find the touchpad easier to control and more precise.
