T42: Changing "Mic In" to "Line In"

#1 Post by pianoprodigy » Tue Jan 24, 2006 10:51 pm

Trying to record using my digital piano through the Mic In. Have to keep the volume very low on the piano and the sound quality isn't great (distant sounding). I think I need a Line In. Any way to change this?

I just realized I can use my Mini Dock from work as it has a Line In (blue) and not a Mic In (pink). However, does anyone know if it's possible to turn the Mic In to a Line In?

You'd need to wire up a voltage divider (basically a few resistors). IIRC a line level input is 500ohms and mics that would be used with compters are 2000ohms give or take. If you use an input that's the wrong impedance you risk destroying the audio circutry in your computer.
