screen flickering

#1 Post by Hopelessness » Wed Jan 25, 2006 1:34 pm

I'm on a T42 with a 9600 mobility here, and I'm getting this annoying flickering problem whenever I use fglrx. Under Windows, or under linux in either the console or in Xorg with anything other than fglrx (ie radeon 2D driver) the screen is fine. However, when I use ATI's binary linux driver, my entire screen constantly flickers. This is at a fairly fast speed, at least a few times per second.

Any clue about this?

I know i'm a bit late, but, I can confirm this problem. ATI screws up the detection of the modeline for the LCD for some reason, and has no way to override it to the correct setting. Irritating to say the least.

Under windows I found I could either use DHMOD to repair ati supplied drivers, or , under linux, i'm considering reinstalling and trying the open-source drivers which don't suffer from this problem.

Maybe ATI has finally updated their drivers to correct this problem? I know a miniority of T42 users seem to suffer from it, but, it isn't limited to the linux platform (a lot of people trying the vista beta also noticed this flickering issue)
