How to add bluetooth daughter on z60t?
How to add bluetooth daughter on z60t?
I have z60t delivered and it has wireless a/b/g I want to add bluetooth. what part should I order to enable bluetooth? pls help
The part number for the card (with integrated antenna is) 39T0497, from what I can tell, all z60t machines use the same LCD cable so there should not be a problem adding it.
To get to the connection from it you will just have to remove the screen bezel, be careful though as this is not a customer replacable part so any damage done by fitting, or as a result of having the card attached, would not be covered under your warranty.

What about Z60M?
I was curious about this too, but for the Z60M.
I have ordered the Z60M, but I can only afford the most basic $799 model.
The CPU, Memory, and HD appear to be able to be upgraded all the way, leaving the only real non-upgradable options the screen, lid, video, fingerprint reader. My concern was bluetooth. Does the z60M use a bluetooth module like many other thinkpads, or is it on the mainboard? It would make sense to me to have it separate, which can allow for fewer variations of the mainboard.
If not, I can always buy a usb or pc card, but this would be nice.
I guess a related question if anyone knows, is if I can indeed add a bluetooth module, if there will be a missing bluetooth indicator or if the wireless switch on the front will work. I can do without those, but it would be nice to have the same bluetooth setup as the higher z60Ms.

Part # 39T0497
ericssonboi,
Did you order the part online on the U.S. or Canada parts site?
I'm going to order 3-4 Z60t's for the office and just learned that only the top-line models had Bluetooth from the factory. I'm just hoping it isn't a huge ordeal to add the function.
Thanks.

Adding Bluetooth
Am looking to add BT to z60t's - 2511E6U's and 2511E4U'schonine wrote:

Can anyone confirm the functionality of the BT indicator w/ the after-factory installation?
And can card be installed (screen bezel removed) w/o removing the entre LCD assembly?
Any tips are most appreciated.

I recently installed bluetooth (PN 39T0497) to my Z60T. It was pretty easy although I had a bit trouble getting off the screw covers. (Scratched two of mine.) You only have to remove the bezel, and not the entire LCD assembly. Basically the connector is right underneath the bezel in the lower left corner of the lcd assembly.
As for the BT indicator, my laptop doesn't come with one. I only have the wireless indicator and that lights up when bluetooth is on. There is also the little bluetooth icon in the taskbar when it is enabled.
The after-factory installation is fully functional. After I connected the BT card, I turned on my laptop, went to Access Connections (Fn + F5), and turned Bluetooth on. Super easy. Nothing to install.

this is absolutely surprising, after calling a service rep about buying a A/B/G wireless card, i asked them if there was a card that i can get to add bluetooth as well. they rep said no, i called after 5pm CST and i got a Canadian rep that said it's not possible in the z60t's. so i just ordered the regular a/b/g mini-pci express card. sometimes i wish they would install a plain ol' empty mini-pci type II or III slot so you can get a a/b/g + bluetooth card or something else.

Any further tips on removing the screw covers? I have to do this install on three notebooks so I suppose the first one could be the tester... hehe
It looks like a micro screwdriver would leave some mark. Could something sticky pull the covers off?
Received the daughter cards yesterday (4-day turnaround).
I did one unit and would like to add:
- none of the daughter cards come w/ the required screw (M2 x 5mm)
- bezel screw covers are stuck on w/ adhesive, micro flat-head still leaves tiny mark on each cover thus de-virginizing the notebook's outside appearance
- bezel removal, though not THAT bad, a little nerve racking especially for the first time

(Hey) no problem! I appreciate all the input in this thread.
The screw thing was a bit of an issue for me. After asking around I managed to get a few. I just need to do three z60t's, so I didn't want to buy these screws (1,000 count minimum). I had to ask people to search the bottoms of their toolboxes.
So far, it's all working well. Thanks!

I was surprised again with Lenovo's quick turnaround.
The Bluetooth is fine for now. I'm really looking forward to USB Wireless... guess that will be for the next notebook...

I have to agree.. it seemed a little daunting when I tried to get open LCD Assembly..now I will have to agree.. its pretty simple.
...now I have to go find a small screw that was missing from the item they sent!!
