Requesting suggestions on Dell UltraSharp 2001FP

#1 Post by jkirch » Fri Jul 16, 2004 12:23 pm

Hi everybody,

I am thinking of buying an external display for my T40p with Port Replicator. Since Dell has a deal on some stuff I wonder if somebody can give me some advise if these panels are good. If I remember correctly there is a Dell panel in Bill's office ;-) so they cannot be too bad.

Thanks already for your answers.
Cheers,

Jens

well, to be honest, i bought three dell FP2000 a couple of years ago, for $850 each..
i wanted 1200x1600 and lots of real estate..

i bought direct from dell so if any of these had a bad display (i.e. stuck pixels) i could send it back..

one of the supplied cables went bad after about 6 months and i never could get through to a live support rep so i just gave up..

so far, these are still working well, but if i get some $$ i'll sell them and grab some of the IBM 20 inch display..
or the dell FP2001 which has the thinner bezel..

Well, I checked for the IBM 20" TFT, bt the price is about 400 EUR higher than the Dell display. I'd like to get the 1600x1200 for CAD work with CATIA V5.

I was thinking of getting an old fashioned Tube (CRT), but space on my desk at home is limited. :-)

Cheers,

Jens

Here in Australia, the price was the clincher for me - at $1700 AU (I got educational pricing - $1400 AU) it is about $1000 or more cheaper than quality competitors and it is a fine display.

I even have a good Dell service story. My display arrived with 3 pixel imperfections. Now down under, we don't seem to be so lucky with the whole "if you're not happy in the fist x days, please return it - no questions asked". Dell's official policy was more than five pixels, but they quite happily agreed to replace it as a "sign of good faith". So they are shipping me out a new one and then they'll organise to have the old one collected (all at their expense). In fact, we have a number of Dell servers and PCs at my school and I can't fault Dell on their support.

As a point of interest, an IBM Australia sales rep told me they have a 7 day return policy - but only on UNOPENED GOODS. Now if only I had x-ray vision! :D

Cheers,
Rob.

I got one at work. Looks great. 1600x1200 is really nice for development.
It is nice that it actually has a dedicated input switch button on the bezel.

This is the reason I am looking get a port replicator/mini dock fro my T40p so I can connect it via DVI.

I have a Dell 2000FP... absolutely love it. Been good to me for 2 years now. My bro just got a 2001FP... and correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems wider
