i1300 series display problem...

#1 Post by drluv » Fri Jul 16, 2004 1:59 pm

Hi there everyone. I've got a technical problem I hope someone out there can help me with. I'm trying to reload software on our pastors i1300 series thinkpad (he bought it used and has no recovery disk) and after trying everything in the book, I still can't get the display to do anything other than the basic 640 X 480 resolution with 16 color. According to the case, the machine is a type 1131-330 with the 12.1 inch SVGA TFT screen. I've been to IBM's site and have tried to use the self detect mode to double check the system but it keeps on coming back saying it cannot detect it (yes, the modem works). So I went in and downloaded all the drivers for the i1300 (that match the type 1131), installed each one, and the display still doesn't work. Under the system settings, no conflict shows up and it says everything is working fine.

Now I would think there may be something wrong with the display, but before I reloaded the software, it worked fine. This is probably a good time to tell you that it was running Windows 2000, but the machine was slow, the pastor didn't have the original disks, and I just happened to have Windows 98 which I was no longer using. I might also add that I now have the display set for IBM's ThinkPad 1024X768 LCD poanel with the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter. I've tried other resolution settings that are available with the driver I downloaded, but to no avail.

I'm just about to my wits end. Does anyone out there have any experience with this particular machine and if so, can you please help?

PS. Does anyone know if you can find recovery disks (legally) for these machines? The pastors daughter will be using this for college and I would hate to see her trying to re-install the operating system by herself.

Do you mean 1171-330?

Which driver are you installing? It should be the SMI Lynx one, if I've got the type# right above.

How are you installing it? Strange things might happen if you use the "update driver" method, rather than running setup.exe as per the instructions.

Last, always update your bios before you try to install a new video driver.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why, but I used one of the other drivers that were listed (for the same machine I think) and that's why it wasn't working. The one you recommended was the right one. I guess I just kind of ignored it when I saw the word "Lynx".

Thanks again for the quick response....
