Just Recieved My Thinkpad! have some questions.
just got my used t41p today. i had two thinkpads before (770z and T40) but i have been using a powerbook for the past year so i didn't have to worry about virus and spyware. what programs is good for spyware and virius? are there any other must have programs for windows? i just downloaded the ibm software installer and is updating all the drivers.

I would stick with updating the virus definitions; there is no real need to jump to the latest version of NAV unless you really want to since it involves some pretty significant changes to be made such as un-installing the previous version of NAV; that isn't exactly trivial depending on how it is done,

Personally I would get rid of NAV2003 and use AVG or Kaspersky. You will probably enjoy the added speed resulting from removing NAV.LDNA wrote:also the laptop came with norton antivirus 2003, will i be ok using that and just keep updateing the virus definition or do i need to get norton antivirus 2006?
Nortons consumer product is just not that good anymore.

Antivirus and -spyware
IMHO Norton Antivirus has earned a undeserved good reputation.
Norton antivrus isnt good at finding virus and cannot find spyware at all.
Get AVG instead, or buy a good one (Panda - Trend - Kaspersky)

That would be linux, more specifically SuSE 10.0 from Novell or Fedora Core 4 from RedHat. Both are free downloads on the net.LDNA wrote:just got my used t41p today. i had two thinkpads before (770z and T40) but i have been using a powerbook for the past year so i didn't have to worry about virus and spyware. what programs is good for spyware and virius? are there any other must have programs for windows? i just downloaded the ibm software installer and is updating all the drivers.
Coming from an Apple background, you will have absolutely no issues with these operating systems.
Just my opinion since I am sure that I will certainly get flamed for this but life's no fun if one's not out lighting fires.
