I am trying to use my laptop's bluetooth with a Nokia HS-26W headset. I have the bluetooth enabled on the laptop and the headset on, but when I go to the bluetooth icon in the control panel and double click it, I get an error that says there is no bluetooth device in range. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong.
Is there some kind of software update I need to do? Is this headset just not compatible?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jeremy

Re: T42 Bluetooth compatibility problems with Nokia HS-26W
I am not familiar with your specific headset device, but if its like my headset you will need to "pair" it with your Thinkpad, as the laptop will probably not "see" it as a Bluetooth device without setting it to pairing mode.doocat76 wrote:II get an error that says there is no bluetooth device in range.
Headsets have a very limited control interface, so setting up a pair with them is a different process to that for a mobile phone, PDA or similar device with a richer user interface.
On my Sony-Ericsson headset, I had to hold down one of the buttons on the headset to get it into "pairing" mode, then I needed to enter the pair code (shown in the headset documentation) once the Thinkpad had discovered the headset and was prompting for the pair code. Once the pair was established, the headset automatically returned to normal operating mode.
Cheers,
Bill
I was looking through the documentation as you suggested. It says to have the device search for the headset and then gives a code that has to be entered once the device has been found. Is there something I have to do on my thinkpad to search for the headset? If not, maybe this headset is only compatible with Nokia phones?

That "Code" is a PIN pairing number intended to make the Bluetooth connection secure; it is a simple two-way synching PIN. I don't know about your Bluetooth, but that starts automatically when I try to access a new device that hasn't been paired before. HTH
