Dead USB Port
Did you check both ports? I've found that on my T23, the port closest to the power plug works fine with all devices, but the other does not. Don't know why, just a quirk.

Hi schen
yeah mine is the same as yours the one next to the ac power plug wroks some but its starting to give me some problems, and the one next to it on the left of it does not work at all, i have also read that lots of people on here have had the same problem and that they had to get as new motherboard from IBM under warranty, but thats not really an option for myself, so it looks like I will have to add usb to the pc card slot

I have an aged ThinkPad 240 that the USB port quit working on.
I know mine is an electrical issue though because if I tug upwards on the device, it works fine. As soon as I release I lose connection. So one of the solder joints probably broke. This is the most likely problem with USB ports is people jamming things in and out of there, devices torquing the connector around at different angles, sooner or later something will break.
I put a USB 2.0 card in the slot to keep it working for a while. The card was under $20 so a lot cheaper than getting someone to look at the soldering on it.

I could not agree more. I like the fact that my 5 year old tech T23 has two PC Cardbus slots. Something unusual even today. New PC Card USB 2.0 adapters are easy to buy for under $20 (including S\H) on eBay from 100% positive feedback sellers. You want the card anyway because it gives you the much faster USB 2.0 speed, four USB ports and places them in a much more convenient place than the rear of the Notebook.vincentfox wrote:I have an aged ThinkPad 240 that the USB port quit working on. I would get the model with four ports & advertised to work often without pluging in the power cord. Some two port adapters require the cord. Better ones can be used many times without the extra power.
