Buying Thinkpads from Tigerdirect.com

#1 Post by siut » Fri Jul 16, 2004 6:42 pm

I'm thinking of purchasing the T42 model 2379DXU from Tigerdirect.com. It would save me almost $150 on tax.

I'm wondering if anyone has past experience buying from them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'd say if you know what you want and they have it in stock, go for it!

Why don't you buy from Bill (the owner of this forum). Email him (bill@thinkpads.com). No tax, and great discounts.

Well I have never personally used tigerdirect, but I have heard plenty about them. Many people would never go near the place, but yet a lot still buy from there.

they seem to have decent ratings: http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1983.html

however i wouldnt full trust that if i was buying something as expensive as a laptop.

I bought the one I am using now from them about 20 months ago. I could not be more pleased.

They tend to be best when they are selling overstock. In my case - I bought a top-of-the line new T23 for $1650 or so after the T30 had pretty much replaced the T23. They have a great off-lease T22 deal going on now for anyone who only needs a basic machine. ($599).

Of course, as a certified geek, I've ordered a new T42 from Bill to replace my perfectly reliable T23...

This is basically IBM's website price for an express model. Is this new or a refurb? Check this has IBM's full 3 year warranty (not a 1 year warranty or a "tiger direct" warranty). Check with Bill Morrow - you should be able to save a little more from him AND pay no tax.

The T23 I bought from Tiger Direct had a full 3-year IBM warranty. Your mileage may vary...
