How do you make recovery CD's
How do you make recovery CD's
I am getting my T42 back from a warranty repair where I had the hard drive replaced.
I asked the tech about sending recovery CD's and he said upon receiving the laptop, to call back and a tech could take me through making them. He emphasized to call before even turning it on.
Anyone know how you make these?

...before it's too late.
If he had installed an OS: press the blue "Access IBM" button and search for "recovery" or "restore".

Yes, there should be if you haven't made a set yet. On my T43p the feature was under START/ALL PROGRAMS/THINKVANTAGE then select "Create Recovery Media". The first disk HAS to be a CD-R, then you can either use 6 more CD-R's or one DVD-R disk.reltor wrote:They said they were going to return it to factory new condition, so the OS will be what winXP pro that came on it.
After doing the Access IBM button is there an option under recovery for making disks?
Thanks
I'm sure there's other ways. . . . .

How would you do it if you wanted to use an external DVD burner, just hook it up and do you have a choice to select the burner?fredstev wrote:Yes, there should be if you haven't made a set yet. Sure, that would work fine. As I recall, I saw a warning pop up that "some usb external devices and dvd-ram are not supported as a boot device". But, yes, it does let you select a backup device other than D: drive or whatever drive letter your cd-r/dvd writer is in the ultrabay.carbon_unit wrote:Yes, That is how I did mine. I used a Plextor USB DVD burner.
Edit: addition. R&R also verifies the disks you create which is a good thing. Just make sure you have time to do this. Took a little more than an hour as I recall.

Re: Rescue and recovery error
Are you trying to burn the CD's from the internal optical drive on your ThinkPad? Do you have any other drives connected - even a USB key? Is the internal optical drive a CD writer? Can you burn other CD's with the drive? Are you using CD/R's as opposed to CD/RW discs? Have you set up any extra partitions on your hard drive, such as a "D" partition? I am not sure which if any of the above would cause your problem, but they are things to consider.kalte84 wrote:I have a problem when i try to make recovery CDs..

I did not call technical support yet, but thanx for the ideas and suggestions.
I did have a secondary partition (d:\ )
My thought is that, the partition is causing the problem with the default target for the recovery discs..
My solution for now, is to make my own XP Pro CD (to keep as my own copy with my own license, of course).
I got the informaiton on how to do it from:
http://www.4saad.com/WhatsNew/Fresh_XP_ ... /index.htm
Thanx for all your inputs
Will keep you guyz posted if i find out the actual problem.

Just got my T42 back from a warranty repair
I made the recovery disks and rescue disk just the way you said, from the thinkvantage area. (7 disks total)
I guess they hadn't been made burned before.
Just as a side note everything works again after IBM reimaged the drive and updated the BIOS
SP2 came preinstalled, but I still had 38 critical updates to get from Microsoft.
+1 for IBM warranty

Sorry kalte84, I must have got you response mixed up with reltor.
I'm not sure if the D:\ partition is causing your problem or not.
Have you tried pressing the Access IBM button on startup and see if you can do something from there?

You can make the R&R disks one time only, however I found that as long as the IBM hidden partition is still on your HD, each time you restore to the factory state from the "Access IBM" button, you get another chance. When I was first setting up my T 43, I started over about 3 times, just to get everything clean installed the way I like it. Each time would allow a new set of R&R disks to be burned.

IF I have already made one copy of Restore and recovery disks,
can I use those disks to clnoe another COPIES?
I mean, can I do "disk to disk" clone to make another copy?
thanks
