T42 - Fan Error!

#1 Post by Sam808 » Sun Jan 29, 2006 5:31 pm

Story: I went to take a short break from my Thinkpad T42
(Model: 2373-3VU) then came to my laptop was shutoff for some
reason. I turn my thinkpad back on then I recieve an fan error,
after that Thinkpad shutdown. Tried few times with the same results

Info: I am from Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition, a college student so I
need to get this fix fast*. I know there is an IBM building, but I am
not sure what they do. I don't have a credit card.

I don't know where to send my Thinkpad for repairs. If, I have to mail it some where, what do you recommend FedEx, UPS. etc.?

Any solutions? :(

Is your T42 still under warranty? If so, give IBM a call. Most likely, all you'll need is a new fan.
2378FVU - 1.7 GHz - 1.25 GB RAM - ATI Radeon 9600 64 MB - Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG - 40 GB HDD 5400 RPM - 14.1" SXGA+

I am having the same problem. If it is under 2 years old, an IBM recognized computer repair place will fix it free. If it is 2-3, IBM will send you a box for you to send it to them. All cost nothing. I dont know what it is about these fans!

you dont have to take it to a repair shop-that way you dont have to wait around while IBM has it. By the way, you can hit ESC when that fan error comes on the screen, you just cant run the computer for more than 2 or so minutes without risk. I hooked up an external fan for the time being until I get the box to ship it, it even keeps it at 26 degrees![/img]
