I just don't get why they can't get the system tray to display correctly if the proper signal strength can be found in another part of the same program.
You are right.....i guess i didn't explain that very well. I'm pretty sure that the problem is AC when used with the IBM card since it's obviously possible to get the signal strength, but tried to say that the problem exist with earlier versions of AC as well and not only 4.x.

I am a little confused by your post above. The Access Connections icon in the notification area looks somewhat like a TV or display sitting on top of an inverted T. To see the signal strength I double-click on the icon and Access Connections opens. The signal strength is displayed right there. I don't see any "View status" or "find network" text displayed. Perhaps you have Windows or Intel PROSet controlling your connection? Maybe this is why some of us are reporting that signal strength is not constantly 100%.
That driver got a bug documented by Intel that cause disconnects.

You are not affected when using long preamble though, but most wireless networks use short preamble unless deliberately changed to long. Also they say that not all computers or all networks is affected, but i guess that has to do with using long or short preamble.

You have another icon in the systray as well which looks like a green graph that show the signal strength. When you click that icon once you get a menu that give you the option to power off radio and "View status". To select view status is basically the same as to doubleclick the icon. From that window you also have the Find WLAN (and not find network as i said).
Currently i got a T43p with a Intel 2200bg and doesn't have this problem where the signal strength is always shown as 100% some places, but when i had the IBM a/b/g card i had the same problem as mention above. So this is related to the IBM (Atheros card) only and not the Intel cards. I assume the bug is in AC, but using the Intel card you are not affected.
I used AC to control my wireless connections and not proset when i had the IBM card. Also when i used the IBM card then the signal strength was shown correctly in windows. It's just some places in AC were the signal strength is not correct when using the IBM card.

Interesting. I had not seen that page before. I do not connect to a lot of WiFi networks. At home some time ago [several versions before 9.0.4.8] I set up my home network by manually inputting the IP Address, yada yada yada in my home network profile of Access Connections. I was having some problems before doing this. Now I have no problems at home. I use the automatic IP Address settings for the other WiFi networks I access. Those would be JetBlue at JFK airport, and recently at my nephews house who lives out of state. No problems at either of these locations. But obviously, from the link above, it is a problem for some.

I've seen that icon before, but I have it turned off. Seemed redundant to me. I do not have WiFi access at my present location, so I cannot test that icon with my setup at this time.

Problem with always showing 100% signal strength with Atheros a/b/g wifi cards still persists with Access Connections v4.21

Does anyone know an email address or anything for reporting bugs? All my support requests have been rejected (Or just stupid replies). I WANT THAT LONG STANDING STUPID BUG FIXED!

Has anyone yet found a solution to this?

Just started a thread because I've been having the same problem with 100% signal despite knowing it's more like 25% and someone advised me to search for existing threads. Using the Atheros 11abg card with AC version 5.02 and the latest wireless drivers. Given that this problem is as old as it is, if there's still no solution, it's really is pathetic on Lenovo's part.

Same here, using atheros a/b/g. I ignored this problem and see signal strength using windows' strength meter... :x

Has anyone tried out Access Connections 5.2 now that it's out to know if it fixes this problem? I'm using an old version to avoid this problem and don't want to risk the upgrade if it doesn't fix it.
