Member Rankings

#1 Post by draco2527 » Mon Jan 30, 2006 12:23 am

<--- Freshman member!!!

:D

Hopefully I will graduate soon!

Do I get a ThinkPad (T60) upon graduation?!

Seriously,

Any ideas on how the process works?

If you make it to freshman (or any other "level") and do not post for three months, do you get "demoted"?

Sorry, the only graduation gifts are feathers
50 posts = Freshman Member
125 posts = Sophmore Member
250 posts = Junior Member & 1 feather
500 posts = Senior Member & 2 feathers

Though, this isn't always the case. Sometimes, there are members that were around prior to this "new" forum that are considered "Senior" even though they have something like 48 posts. This is most likely because of a combination of longevity and knowledge. There are also Thinkpad.com customers, which are people that have purchased systems directly from Bill Morrow. These are the individuals that have crossed feathers. (ie. Asiafish - sorry for the nod)

There have been threads in the past regarding the "feathers", but I don't think that they apply to the new way that things are being done now.

since i have birds rather than children, i use feathers in place of stars or similar..

the more feathers the more respect i have for those particular people..
this does not mean that those with two feathers are not held in high regard, only that i must spend some time and resolve this rank issue..

and

no, if you don't post for a year you do NOT get demoted to one feather..

as for freshman, sophomore, etc., i am open to suggestions re. a different ranking system..
maybe military rankings..?
or..???

and after this weekend, all the feathers might change to black sine i am crushed be the untimely and useless death of one of my oldest birds..
a wonderful moluccan cockatoo whose name is "Peachy"..
she was 14 years old..
buried her in a small tomb in the rear area of my home today, sunday, 29th of january, 2006!

so much for ranking..
as one might understand, this is not the topmost item on my personal adgenda, for a while.. :( :( :(

Just a minor correction to this so folks won't be wondering why they have not been promoted--the promotion to Sophomore Member comes at 125, not 100.

Thanks, didn't realize that it was 125. Corrected the above.

Losing a pet is definitley no fun, pets can become a major part of the familly pretty fast. My condolances and I hope you get through. I remember a few years (2003) back how shaken up I was after my old cat died at age 12. I was shaken up a good bit by that but looking back, I'm just greatful for the good times and memories she left. Instead of staying sad over what you lost, just try to be happy about what you had, that's how I try to look at things.

I had a canary once, it was awesome! At first, to me; it "seemed" like a mindless bird that could sing, eat and crap everywere...

As days turned into months, months into years (2 or 3? can' t remember.) I grew a deep love for that bird!! It knew me!, a BIRD!! His attitude and composure would change the minute he saw me, he would sing and he would chirp (YES..I did talk to it!!) and it seemed like he would respond to it! Every morning I would take him outside, his cage was in a spot were he had partial shade on one half and sun on the other for most of the day! I had to leave for good and the house was put up for sale, the idea was to keep family in the house until it sold; everything would stay as it was until that day!

I was the one that for years would take the bird outside every morning, and put him inside late in the afternoon; I would feed him, change the newspaper, give him water.......I left on a wednesday night, bird was fine; my relative took the bird outside thursday morning; a few hours later she checked on the bird and it was dead!! I was in shock, they say that they are really sensitive to change....maybe it was the different face that morning that did him in, maybe it was his time to check out no matter what had happened!!! But one thing I know, that little yellow singing wonder change my perspective on them! After that I had a pigeon, that too was an awesome bird! I had built a post (with a platform) for her; and she would never fly away, she would stay out there all day, at night I would put her in a cage inside. Sadly, one day I heard some loud "screams" I went outside and I saw a wild cat that had her in his jaws; to this day I feel bad about this, I could not get the cat to let her go....so I killed him(the cat got my really good!); but it was too late, she was in really bad shape, she did not make it, again I was in shock...I have never owned a bird since.......

I feel your loss!

you do your best with those who depend on you..
sometimes your best is not sufficient..

when people ask me about these hurricanes that keep blowing thorugh this part of florida, i smile and say "fortune favors the prepared" and so far i have been sufficiently prepared..
in the case of peachy, i was not sufficiently prepared with the drug (epinepherin(sp?)) which would have saved her when her heart stopped..

won't happen again..

sorry about your canary and pigeon..

there is little else to say..

except maybe: fortune favors the prepared..
