x41 Tablet Wireless card issues. HELP!!

#1 Post by gstants » Tue Jan 31, 2006 3:34 pm

Hello,

I have 2 Ibm x41 tablet pc edition computers. From a factory load (just turning the computer on) i get the following error whenever i try and load the wireless card (intel 2200b/g) "unable to change the power state of the 802.11 wireless radio update the driver for the wireless adapter". If i update the drivers it doesn't work. I have spend more than 7 hours on the phone with IBM tech support and get the same answer. They have had me uninstall and reinstall every version combination of Access Connections and intel wireless drivers. They have not been able to help me what so ever. I fianlly got sick of it and removed it completly and put on the intel supplicant. This works fine, however i can not switch proxy settings in the profiles which i need to do. BOTH of the computers do the EXACT same thing. I had to eventually reformat/restore the x41 to factory defaults because it was horrible from all the install/uninstall that ibm had me do. Ibm basically has no idea and doesn't seem like they can solve this problem. On the fresh restore i have installed nothing on the computer and it still doesn't work. Anyone have an ideas? Anyone had this problem? I am starting to think i got 2 bad computers. Let me know if anyone can help

THanks,
Glenn

This problem plagues every known Thinkpad that has the 2200BG (maybe other cards as well) and nobody knows how to solve it. What works for one, doesn't work for others. To me, keeping the original preloaded WiFi driver and never updating it seems to work. But for you even the factory load doesn't help. Trial and error might get you there.
