Keyboard Problem

#1 Post by andy71600 » Tue Jan 31, 2006 9:30 pm

My new thinkpad seems to have a problem with the left arrow key on the keyboard. It seems to be extremely loose, and makes a very odd clicking sound when pressed. The button itself still works, but I am afraid that it will fall off soon... not to mention the sound it makes is quite annoying. I have only had this comptuer for about two weeks. Will IBM ship me out a new keyboard to fix this?

If you explain it like that to tech support, I think they will; the key shouldn't be loose but it can make a variety of sounds. Of those sounds, the key should make the same sound all the time it is pressed with reasonable force; otherwise that would seem to indicate that there is a mechanical problem with how the key is seated.

They might ask you to take it off and then re-seat it; have you tried that?

HTH :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I actually called a little while ago, and a new keyboard is on its way .

I love IBM tech support.

EDIT: By the way, how would you reseat a key on a laptop keyboard?

It should say somewhere in the HMM; you just gently pry up one corner at a time. Then to put it back on, you just re-seat approximately and press down.

I think there was a thread on this awhile ago. but you are getting a new keyboard anyway. :)

Talk about fast service... I got my new keyboard this morning, less than 12 hours after calling IBM.
