T43 freezes with docking station
T43 freezes with docking station
My T43 2669-W5B with WinXP SP2 is freezes, using 2878 model docking station, in the following conditions:
1. Working undocked, and when docking it, it freezes.
2. If docked when starting it, it freezes imediatelly.
(I have tried to have nothing but the power cable connected to docking station, but I've got the same result)
In either cases mouse/keyboard are not respoding anymore, only the power button from either laptop or docking station.
I've tried to take the battery off and place it again, no change.
One more thing, it was working for few days.
Any suggestions?
Thx!
P.S. If you need more info, please let me know.

Re: T43 freezes with docking station
Windows XP has configuration options for different behaviour when docked. From Windows XP Help......konad wrote:1. Working undocked, and when docking it, it freezes.

So, you should check your Windows Hardware profiles and make sure you haven't accidently set a different profile for docked operation that is impacting your Thinkpads ability to function when docked, before looking for other possible causes.Hardware profiles are especially useful if you have a portable computer. Most portable computers are used in a variety of locations, and hardware profiles will let you change which devices your computer uses when you move it from location to location. For example, you may have one profile named Docking Station Configuration for using your portable computer at a docking station with hardware components such as a CD-ROM drive and a network adapter. And you may have a second profile named Undocked Configuration for using your portable computer in a hotel or on an airplane, when you are not using a network adapter or a CD-ROM but you are using a modem and a portable printer.
If there is more than one hardware profile on your computer, you can designate a default profile that will be used every time you start your computer. You can also have Windows ask you which profile to use every time you start your computer. Once you create a hardware profile, you can use Device Manager to disable and enable devices that are in the profile. When you disable a device in a hardware profile, the device drivers for the device are not loaded when you start your computer.
Cheers,
Bill
Thanks for your reply, but why is then the laptop freezed when I am starting it docked and doens't even pass the POST ? (I can't enter BIOS or anything like that, after pressing Power ON, the only thing that works is the Power OFF button, nothing else). As far as I know this doesn't have anything to do with Windows.
I have experienced this and other problems with my Dock II/T42, and agree that this does not appear to be an issue with Windows XP.
Sometimes the Dock won't unlock and disengage when I power down, and sometimes the operating system freezes when it is in the Dock (I've never had it freeze when it is un-docked) whereas there is no rhyme or reason to when this happens...

to me, it sounds like a bad device conflict or something is actually short in the dock. the tp works on its own signs that there is nothing wrong the it, all evidence points to the dock.
the only thing is chech the dock port on the tp to see if it looks wierd or not

I would suggest resetting your Bios to default values, saving and then immedietely shutting it dow. Then dock it (on a known working dock) and then start you system and see if it freezes. If it does, then you possibly have an issue with your system and i would suggest calling in the IBM service.
Also, never undock and dock your computer in a working state without first disconnecting all connected external devices. I have had some crazy issues doing it and what i do is put my system to standby and then DOCK & Undock it.. it has so far been ok. But speaking to IBM tech-support they wre adament that I shut down my system before dock 7 un-docking.

I'm having the same problem with my 2668-83u. How long did it take to replace your board and have your problem fixed?
Is anyone else having a problem with this? I never had any problem with my previous T40 and can't seem to find enough information googling online.
