Anyway of replacing the virgin image in the recovery part?

#1 Post by umern » Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:25 am

SORRY - just realised I should have posted this in the general forum. :?

Recently bought a 2nd hand T40 off Ebay which was in its virgin state with XP SP1.

Spent some time updating to SP2 and latest drivers etc. I know I can create recovery CDs etc but was wondering if there any utilities etc that will allow me to replace the virgin image in the recovery partition with my updated fully patched up installation.

I am about to upgrade my HD to 80GB so its not really a HD space issue. I just think it would be great to recover straight from the HD and not worry about feeding in recovery CDs etc. With my desktop and previous laptop I find myself do a restore from image every 6-9 months when things start slowing down.

from what i know the image area is encrypted. if you boot to repair console using an win xp cd, the admin password is not the password you set up with, it's an ibm one. the only thing i can think of is to use slipstream and burn them onto cd. google the keyword slipstream.
